Review # 20 Tram Yard Cafe, Dalkey

Hi Everyone,
Sorry I am a little late with the review this week. With Tara so busy moving to London town I should be keeping up the blog but I have been a little slack, too busy missing her I'd say :) All this college work is building up too, if you don't know I have returned to college study Early Childhood Development so should have plenty to blog about in the near future, if I ever get a free moment. Enjoy this weeks review and start getting excited about some post from London coming soon.
The Tram Yard Cafe
A: Castle Street, Dalkey, County Dublin
O: Mon~Sun 9am~6pm
This stunning little café and gift shop in Dalkey is just off the main street in the old Dalkey Tram Yard, hence the name. The interior of the café is clean, vibrant and oh so pretty with my favorite Cath Kidson patterns adoring the tables, wares and even the staff in the form of pretty aprons. The decking for sitting out is in my opinion the best part of the café and there is a lovely casual but cool atmosphere that is enjoyed by an eclectic mix of people.

I tried a quiche which was served with a side salad and crisps and my friend ate from the outdoor barbecue being cooked right by our table. I am not sure if there is a specific children’s menu I was enjoying myself too much to stop and ask but there is a full sandwich bar so you will find something tasty for your littlen’s. We both had a glass of crisp Sauvignon Blanc and were lucky enough to be get some sunshine and free live jazz music to top off the experience.

Of course none of this would have been as enjoyable as it was if Amelie had not been content the whole time we were there. We were provided with a high chair and she happily sat nibbling in my quiche and sipping her water bottle just watching all that was going on around her. We were there for quite some time and when she got  a little restless in the high chair I was able to take her out and let her have a wander around as there is plenty of space. She amused herself with going up and down the step, oohing at the dogs that were constantly passing and having a little bop to the Jazz music.

The changing facilities were lovely, staff very accommodating and overall the place exudes child friendly. On Saturdays there is a farmers market held in the tram year and I have heard whispers of a fantastic local artist about open a shop selling his hand made silver jewellery, very excited. We will be back without question to shop, eat drink and relax!

Book Festivals, Outdoor Live Jazz and a Unique Creative Reuse...

In Dalkey last weekend on a leisurely stroll we stumbled across the Dalkey Book Festival and a little open air live Jazz. I spotted a very creative re-use and wanted to share it.

I will do this in my dream garden one day only my raised bed will be full of delicious seasonal vegetables.

Next week we will review the Tram Yard Cafe in Dalkey... this is one not to be missed. The Dalkey Tram Yard is home to a weekly farmers market too which is held on Saturdays and hosts an eclectic mix of stalls well worth a look.

Review # 13 Idle Wild

                                      Idle Wild Cafe

Address:
20 St.Patrick's Rd. Dalkey, Co. Dublin. Ph: 012354501
Telephone:

Dalkey is a beautiful little village by the sea just out side of Dublin. Many famous people  like Bono, Anne Lenox, Jim Sheridan and Neil Jordan live in Dalkey because of its picturesque views, friendly people and quaint village. Its also where Dallan and Andrew both grew up, and families are still there. I am always in Dalkey bringing Dylan to see his grandad and we always seem to find out selves having coffee or lunch in Idle Wild Cafe.
Situated in the heart of Dalkey, this little cafe is a great mix of home baking and good old fashioned food. It has a beautiful little court yard out side where you can sit on a nice day and as its enclosed its perfect for your little toddler to explore. Amelie and Dylan are both very adventurous and even though Amelie has been walking for months and Dylan is still cruising the furniture, they both want to be out of the high chair and looking around. So having an enclosed court yard where there is little they can do to hurt them selves is re assuring, and it allows us to actually enjoy a hot coffee while keeping an eye on the little ones with out having to walk around with them.
There is a kids menu which has all the usual yummy meals kids enjoy. No green beans in sight.
It has a lovely atmosphere and the staff are all very accommodating to moving around the tables to make way for the buggies bags and high chairs.
Its not a very big cafe and it can get very busy at lunch time so best to avoid the lunch time rush and go at 12 or just after 2pm.
It has 2 high chairs and the only down side is there isn't a changing room.
