Creative Reuse - The Art Space

One day Ame and I were having a nosy over the neighbours fence and we spotted a skip, they were doing a big clear out. I noticed that just next to the skip was a giant wooden box.. the cogs started churning and I just had to pop over and see if they were getting rid of it. They were. I was delighted. I had no idea what I would use it for I just knew that I had to have it. After much huffing and puffing and twisting and dragging with Ame trailing me on her scooter I got the box to my apartment (with strange looks from some other neighbors non of whom offered to help might I add.) Ame was delighted with her new box and I hadn't even done anything to it at this point. I thought that I would share the finished product, an Art Space.

I see it changing over time as Ame's interests change a puppet theatre perhaps or a fort or a mini stage for dress ups. I can picture a huge vintage suitcase filled with Ame's dress ups sitting on top with some deep red curtains and a mini spot light... oh I cant wait. When she out grows it it will make a great raised garden bed filled with strawberry or chill plants.. oh the possibilities!

Airfield Farm Dundrum, Take 2

Amelie and her little mate Hugo and the Mummies had a fabulous day out at Airfield Farm in Dundrum. I have blogged about the farm before but thought I would do another in case anyone missed it. Airfield Farm is an amazing day out for children of all ages. The spring and summer is the best time to go as the baby animals are being born. We saw new born piglets and calves yesterday.  In my opinion it is the best value for money activity to do with your babies and children in Dublin, Adults are €6, children €3 and babies are free.  Hugo pointing at the cows and saying bot-bot was just brilliant it is so important that these little guys understand that chickens lay the eggs and that milk comes from cows and goats. 

We packed a picnic and spread out a rug in the magical gardens under the shade of some very hugs and old trees. You really forget that you are two minutes from Dundrum shopping Centre and a half hour from home; it is so relaxing and earthy that you never want to leave!

The trees themselves provided about an hour’s entertainment for the kids, climbing, sliding and hiding abound the huge roots that protrude from the ground. We spent a good bit of time searching for Koalas in the giant Eucalypt trees that made me super home sick and smelt beautiful. We collected a huge pile of leaves from the old gum tree and Amelie has had some fun creating masterpieces with nature and re-used materials. 

Amelie and Hugo found some little mud puddles, and we though, what’s the harm? Well it seems the harm is that some of these mud puddles were shin deep and both babies ended up covered in mud from head to toe, but their giggles and smiles were worth it. As I always say a messy baby is a baby who has had a lot of fun!

At the farm in the old farm house/mansion there is a lovely café, called Overends. We posted a review on Overends a while back so pop over and have a read. As we took a picnic this time we didn’t eat here but a take away latte really hit the spot. 

On the last Saturday of every month the Vintage and Craft markets is held at Airfield. Admission to the market is free but we suggest you do what we did yesterday… completely tire the babies out so they have a nap in the buggies then you are free to have a browse of the markets. There are some lovely stalls at the market. My favourites; Jewellery by Emma she does some stunning sliver work with that hammered effect, it’s my favourite (Dal if you are reading hint hint) and Our Little BowTique, they have some of the most unique and oh so pretty baby bows and boutique clothing.

Airfield Farm Dundrum

Hello Everyone, if you are looking for something fun to do today there is a vintage and craft market on at Airfield Farm in Dundrum. You will find hand made and vintage jewelry pieces, the shop stocks some of the fabulous Artysmarty collections too. I am sorry for leaving it so late to tell you about but I was having computer troubles this week but I am back on top now and will make up for it with plenty of posts this week. The best thing is that this is not a once off, check out our events page for details on up and coming markets and events in Airfield Farm.  

I was there with my family recently and we had one of our most memorable best days together to date. The gorgeous spring weather, the animals, Amelie being the perfect age to take it all in and some fabulous food, coffee and cake made the day perfect. It is such a pity we had to take Amelie to get her 12 month immunisation afterwards, but that aside it was truly a lovely day.

Amelie enjoyed the lambs the most, some had only been born that day and she really enjoyed watching them stumble around in the hay. We all thought it particularly amusing and cute when one of the lambs perched himself on top of his mothers back for a few moments, his wobbly legs gave way and he tumbled to the ground, unhurt thank god. It reminded me of an adventurous Amelie when she first started to walk at just 9 months old, she had barely mastered the left right of it and was already trying to climb and run.

We went mid week which was ideal, while there were a few other families floating about it almost felt like we had the whole place to ourselves. The gardens are truly magnificent and the story behind the two sisters who kept the farm running through wars and hardships to ensure it would survive is very inspirational. I will review the restaurant at Airfield soon and of course share it with you but in advance I would recommend the vegetable roulade...
