Review # 21 - Yo Sushi, Dundrum

I’m off to Dundrum today and you can be sure that I will pop into Yo Sushi for a snack. I just love Sushi and remember the first time my Aunty took me for sushi when I was quite a young child, I was so excited to be trying something so new and exciting. I am baby free today but my husband and I have taken little monkey there on many an occasion and she absolutely loves it. The first time we went there I was really unsure if there would be much for Amelie to eat but I was delighted at the choice. The novelty of the sushi train was brilliant Amelie would peer in the bowls and choose something she wanted to try. I initially ordered a plain rice for her as she usually loves rice but because there was so many colourful interesting looking things to put in to her moth she wouldn’t even look at the rice. She learnt how to suck up noodles and even tried to use chopsticks. There are always children of all ages there and I am so impressed the variety of food that they are eating from hot dishes to sushi and sashimi to tempura and spicy seaweed salads. Giving your children a variety of tastes, textures and flavours really develops their palate. Yo Sushi is such a fun way to entice your little ones to try something different. The is a lovely little fruit dish too with melons and grapes for them to have as a healthy dessert.

There are several highchairs available but we find sitting Amelie next to us in one of the booths is most fun, she can watch the Sushi train go by and feel like she is a big girl. When she is done eating, and we are not the colourful bowls provide a little entertainment. The staffs are amazingly friendly and used to the mess left behind by giggling and excited toddlers. The changing facilities in Dundrum Town Centre are some of the best around and there are feeding areas if you are nursing. On each table there is filtered water which is great because you don’t have to spend a fortune on drinks, however the bill is usually pretty pricey for a lunch or a snack, but well worth the fun that goes with it. If you don’t want to get carried away plan what you are going to get before you start grabbing everything that looks good as it goes past, that mountain of bowls can add up.

If you are looking for a bit of fun and an opportunity to give your children a cultural food experience Yo Sushi is such a great place to start. If you are out in Dundrum there is plenty of great shopping and be sure to pick up a copy of Irish Parent the free parenting magazine available all around the centre.

Airfield Farm Dundrum

Hello Everyone, if you are looking for something fun to do today there is a vintage and craft market on at Airfield Farm in Dundrum. You will find hand made and vintage jewelry pieces, the shop stocks some of the fabulous Artysmarty collections too. I am sorry for leaving it so late to tell you about but I was having computer troubles this week but I am back on top now and will make up for it with plenty of posts this week. The best thing is that this is not a once off, check out our events page for details on up and coming markets and events in Airfield Farm.  

I was there with my family recently and we had one of our most memorable best days together to date. The gorgeous spring weather, the animals, Amelie being the perfect age to take it all in and some fabulous food, coffee and cake made the day perfect. It is such a pity we had to take Amelie to get her 12 month immunisation afterwards, but that aside it was truly a lovely day.

Amelie enjoyed the lambs the most, some had only been born that day and she really enjoyed watching them stumble around in the hay. We all thought it particularly amusing and cute when one of the lambs perched himself on top of his mothers back for a few moments, his wobbly legs gave way and he tumbled to the ground, unhurt thank god. It reminded me of an adventurous Amelie when she first started to walk at just 9 months old, she had barely mastered the left right of it and was already trying to climb and run.

We went mid week which was ideal, while there were a few other families floating about it almost felt like we had the whole place to ourselves. The gardens are truly magnificent and the story behind the two sisters who kept the farm running through wars and hardships to ensure it would survive is very inspirational. I will review the restaurant at Airfield soon and of course share it with you but in advance I would recommend the vegetable roulade...

Baby and Toddler Groups

As a stay at home mother I am so lucky to have so much time to spend with my baby girl. I love to read to her, play games that help her learn, sing nursery rhymes and explore new places with her. I enjoy every second but it often occurs to me that she needs time to be social with other children around her age. Obviously she has her best pal Dylan to play with often but it is great for her to interact with other children too.

Most weeks we toddle off to two different baby and toddler mornings and tomorrow we are going to try a new one. I am looking forward to meeting up with a few mothers that I already know, meeting some new people and most of all giving Amelie a new experience with some babies her age.

I would love to hear from mothers what they are looking for in a baby and toddler groups as I have heard many different things chatting with Mums over coffee or the swings and have read so many blogs all saying they like different things each group has to offer. Comments I've heard., "too many nannies and not enough mothers", "some have too many older children that bowl the little ones over," "too many toy" or "not enough toys" and "some are over crowded"... what makes your baby and toddler group great?



When I was checking out google for the address of the group I am going to tomorrow I realised just how many different baby and toddler groups there are around the place, and of course I wanted to share these with you. Hope to see you around the place,

After a busy day shopping in Dundrum there endless places to choose from when the time comes for lunch. We hope to review them all in time and let you know which we find the best if you have your babies and toddlers with you. We will begin with Gallery.net Café, it is a small little bagel bar located on the Gallery Floor. The free wifi access is obviously appealing to students and business people so we were not sure how this place would fare on baby friendliness if it was not really the clientele they were aiming at. I can hardly imagine Amelie being patient enough for me to update the blog over lunch.

Let begin by saying the staff at this café were very attentive, friendly and able to stay on top of the busy lunch time rush. We ordered sandwiches, drinks and some fruit for Amelie. I was excited that they sold one of my favourite drinks… Feel Good orange and cranberry water, it is delicious and packed full of vitamins and minerals that give you a real energy boost. The sandwiches were fine at best, my husband leaving half of his as he just lost interest and thought the bread was slightly stale, we probably should have gone for bagels instead. The fillings in my sandwich seemed fresh and the salad crisp, again the bread was slightly stale so I would try a bagel the next time.

As we were not quite full from our less than amazing sandwiches we decided to have something sweet to cheer us up. The coffee and cake deal for €3.95 was too good to pass up and certainly made up for the sandwiches. The coffee was good and the cakes were nice, run of the mill nothing too special but nice. By this stage Amelie had made a huge mess with her fruit and was now getting fidgety, we paid the bill which was very modest and left feeling satisfied from the desserts. We look forward to visiting some of Dundrum's other cafes soon, and of course sharing our experiences with you.

The Gallery.net Cafe did not have any chidlrens activities however Dundrum Shopping Cetre is packed to the brim with things for baies, toddlers, children of all ages and of course their parents. More info to come soon.
